Other hazardous biological waste
A biological source produced the waste, but it is not sewage sludge.
Is California code 322 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Waste must first be found hazardous. Code 322 isn't a restricted code, but a restricted category that fits takes priority over it. A code that isn't restricted doesn't make waste non-hazardous.
When a shipment needs the Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest, enter 322 in Item 13 for the waste line. Use one California code, plus the federal RCRA codes when the waste is federally hazardous.
RCRA waste meets a federal listing or characteristic, with no federal exclusion that applies. Non-RCRA waste is hazardous under California rules only. California presumes hazardous waste is RCRA unless the generator shows it isn't, so keep that determination.
What does California code 322 cover?
This code is for hazardous waste made by a biological material or process that isn't sewage sludge. Biological origin doesn't prove it hazardous, and medical-waste classification can put the material under separate rules.

Is biological waste California code 322 or 321?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| 322 | A biological material or process produced hazardous waste that is not sewage sludge. |
| 321 | Sewage treatment produced the hazardous sludge. |
| No California hazardous waste code | The biological material has no hazardous listing or characteristic. |
Record the material or process, and the separate reason it is hazardous. Medical-waste rules can apply without making the material code 322.
Which wastes take California code 322?
| Waste | When it’s 322 |
|---|---|
