Organics
Other organic liquid mixture
Hazardous organic liquid outside the solvent, oil, halogen and metal entries.
Is California code 343 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. The material must first be determined hazardous. California code 343 is not restricted, and a restricted code takes priority over it. A non-restricted code doesn't make a waste non-hazardous.
If the shipment needs the Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest, enter 343 in Item 13 for the waste line. Use one California code, plus any federal RCRA codes when the waste is federally hazardous.
Waste is RCRA waste when it meets a federal listing or characteristic and no federal exclusion applies. Non-RCRA waste is hazardous under California rules only. California presumes hazardous waste is RCRA unless the generator shows it isn't, so keep that determination.
What does California code 343 cover?
This is the fallback for a hazardous organic liquid mixture once the solvent, oil, halogen and metal codes have been considered. Use history matters as well as composition. Unused fuel or chemical discarded as aged, surplus or off-specification stock has its own code.

Is an organic liquid mixture California code 343?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| 343 | The hazardous organic liquid mixture fits no more specific solvent, oil, halogen or metal code. |
| 341 | A hazardous organic liquid that holds halogens and isn't a solvent, with no restricted code. |
| 342 | The organic liquid holds a metal listed under code 121, with no restricted code. |
| 331 | Unused hazardous organic fuel or chemical discarded because it is aged, surplus or outside specification. |
| 214 | A hazardous solvent blend that can't be placed in a specific solvent chemistry group. |
Fuel, solvent and organic liquid aren't interchangeable. Keep the use history and mixture composition that support your choice. Check restricted codes before this fallback. The regulations don't rank overlapping non-restricted descriptions.
Which wastes take California code 343?

|---|---|
| Other organic liquid mixture | Composition rules out the specific solvent, oil, halogenated-liquid and metal-bearing codes. |
| Waste gasoline and diesel | A hazardous organic liquid fuel mixture with no more specific code. |
