D025, p-Cresol.

  • Characteristic hazardous waste

    p-Cresol

p-Cresol at 200 mg/L or more in the TCLP extract.

Toxic characteristic waste. Waste with p-cresol at 200 mg/L or more in the TCLP test. Cresols are disinfectant & solvent chemicals.

Is D025 hazardous waste?

Yes. D025 is hazardous waste when the TCLP extract of a representative sample holds p-cresol at 200 mg/L or more. That makes it toxic hazardous waste, whatever industry or process it came from.

Compare the p-cresol in the TCLP extract with 200 mg/L. A total p-cresol result is a different measure, so it can't be compared with this limit.

D025 is a nonacute characteristic. On a required hazardous waste manifest, put D025 in Item 13. See VSQG exemptions and empty-container rules.

What does D025 cover?

D025 applies when the TCLP extract of a representative waste sample holds p-cresol at 200 mg/L or more. The limit is for the extract, not the waste’s total p-cresol. If the cresol isomers can't be told apart, use total cresol D026 at 200 mg/L.

Is p-cresol waste D025 or D026?

CodeWhen it fits
D025A representative sample’s TCLP extract contains p-cresol at or above 200 mg/L.
D026The cresol isomers cannot be differentiated and total cresol is at least 200 mg/L.

Generators decide the codes from testing or knowledge of the waste, under 40 CFR 262.11. A result below 200 mg/L rules out D025 only. It doesn't make the waste nonhazardous. The table’s cresol footnote decides whether an isomer code or D026 records the result.

Which wastes take D025?

WasteWhen it’s D025
Contaminated soilp-Cresol leaching from contaminated soil reaches the TCLP limit
Demolition debrisp-Cresol leaching from demolition debris reaches the TCLP limit
Treated wood wastep-Cresol leaching from treated wood waste reaches the TCLP limit
