    Wastewater sludge from electroplating

F-list process waste.

Plating tank, drawn for RCRA waste code F006, wastewater sludge from electroplating. Toxic sludge from electroplating rinse water.
Toxic F-listed waste. Treatment sludge from electroplating wastewater, with metals such as chrome, nickel & cadmium.

Is F006 hazardous waste?

Yes. F006 is nonacute F-listed hazardous waste when the source process and waste stream match the listing. The federal table gives it hazard code (T), meaning toxicity.

F006 depends on how and where the waste arose, not on a concentration test alone. A test may add a characteristic code, but it doesn't remove this listing when its conditions are met.

On a required hazardous waste manifest, put F006 in Item 13. See VSQG exemptions and empty-container rules.

What does F006 cover?

F006 covers wastewater-treatment sludge from electroplating. It excludes sulfuric-acid aluminum anodizing, tin plating, segregated zinc plating, and aluminum or zinc-aluminum plating on carbon steel. It also excludes the cleaning or stripping tied to those carbon-steel plating processes, and aluminum chemical etching or milling.

Is electroplating sludge F006 or F012?

CodeWhen it fits
F006It is electroplating wastewater-treatment sludge, and none of F006’s 6 process exclusions applies.
F012It is quenching waste water treatment sludges from metal heat treating operations from a process that uses cyanide.
F007It is spent cyanide plating bath solutions from electroplating operations.

The operation and the waste form set this listing apart. Chemical content alone doesn't pick an F code. The rows show nearby listed streams, not every code that can apply, so add any characteristic or other listing that fits on its own. One waste can carry more than one federal code.
