Miscellaneous
Waste from a gas scrubber
Gas-cleaning equipment produced the hazardous liquid, sludge or solid.
Is California code 581 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. First decide the material is hazardous. Code 581 isn't restricted, so a restricted category that fits wins over it. A non-restricted code doesn't make a waste nonhazardous.
If a shipment needs the Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest, enter 581 in Item 13 for its waste line. Use one California code, plus the federal RCRA codes when the waste is federally hazardous.
RCRA waste meets a federal listing or characteristic and has no federal exclusion. Non-RCRA waste is hazardous under California rules only. California presumes hazardous waste is RCRA unless the generator shows it isn't, so keep that record.
What does California code 581 cover?
This entry is hazardous residue from a scrubber, which removes contaminants from a gas stream by contact with liquid or another medium. It can be liquid, sludge or solid. The equipment and the source process set the category.
