Find a Texas waste code
497, PCB organic devices, 500 ppm or more.
Organic solids
PCB organic devices, 500 ppm or more
Organic electrical equipment with at least 500 ppm PCBs.
Where does Texas form code 497 go in the Texas waste code?
In characters 5–7. The 8-character code is a 4-character stream sequence, the 3-digit form 497 and a final class character. Form 497 puts the stream in the organic solids category.
These PCB bands don't replace the hazardous-waste determination. If the waste isn't RCRA hazardous, industrial waste with at least 50 ppm PCBs is Class 1.
For a hazardous or Class 1 shipment that needs a Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest, enter the full Texas code in Item 13, across 2 blocks on paper. Add any EPA waste codes alongside it. The 3 form digits alone are not enough.
The generator sets the class from exclusions, federal hazardous-waste listings and characteristics, then Texas industrial-waste criteria. H means hazardous. 1, 2 and 3 are the nonhazardous industrial classes. Testing or process knowledge supports that call, and picking a form doesn't set the class.
What does Texas form code 497 cover?
This form covers electrical equipment or devices that are mostly organic and hold PCBs at 500 ppm or more. It stays an equipment form, not the general organic solid or soil form.

Are high-band PCB transformers and capacitors Texas form code 497?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| 497 | The organic electrical equipment has PCBs at 500 ppm or more. |
| 496 | The organic electrical equipment has PCBs at 50 to under 500 ppm. |
| 495 | The organic solid has PCBs at 500 ppm or more. |
| 499 | The organic soil has PCBs at 500 ppm or more. |
Record the material, its organic makeup and the PCB concentration. The form digits don't encode the class. Nonhazardous industrial waste with PCBs at 50 ppm or more is Class 1.
Which wastes take Texas form code 497?
| Waste | When it’s 497 |
|---|---|
| PCB waste | Organic electrical equipment in the upper PCB band. |
