D011, Silver.
Characteristic hazardous waste
Silver
Silver at 5 mg/L or more in the TCLP extract.

Is D011 hazardous waste?
Yes. Waste is D011 when the TCLP extract of a representative sample holds silver at or above 5 mg/L. That makes it toxic hazardous waste, whatever industry or process it came from.
Compare the silver in the TCLP extract with 5 mg/L. A total silver result is a different measure, so it can't be compared with this limit.
D011 is a nonacute characteristic. On a required hazardous waste manifest, put D011 in Item 13. See VSQG exemptions and empty-container rules.
What does D011 cover?
D011 applies when a representative sample gives a TCLP extract with silver at or above 5 mg/L. The limit is for the extract, not the waste’s total silver.

Is silver waste always D011?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| D011 | The TCLP extract of a representative sample holds silver at or above 5 mg/L. |
| D004–D043 | The silver result is below 5 mg/L, but another contaminant or characteristic can still apply. |
Generators decide the codes from testing or knowledge of the waste, under 40 CFR 262.11. A result below 5 mg/L rules out D011 only. It doesn't make the waste nonhazardous.
Which wastes take D011?
| Waste | When it’s D011 |
|---|---|
| Waste contaminated with toxic metals | Its silver leaches at the TCLP limit or above. |
| Silver-contaminated waste | Its silver leaches at the TCLP limit or above. |
| Contaminated soil | Its silver leaches at the TCLP limit or above. |
| Waste pharmaceuticals | Its silver leaches at the TCLP limit or above. |
| Spent photographic fixer | Its silver leaches at the TCLP limit or above. |
| Silver-bearing photo rinsewater | Its silver leaches at the TCLP limit or above. |
