D014, Methoxychlor.

  • Characteristic hazardous waste

    Methoxychlor

Methoxychlor at 10 mg/L or more in the TCLP extract.

Toxic characteristic waste. Waste with methoxychlor at 10 mg/L or more in the TCLP test. Methoxychlor is an insecticide.

Is D014 hazardous waste?

Yes. Waste is D014 when the TCLP extract of a representative sample holds methoxychlor at or above 10 mg/L. That makes it toxic hazardous waste, whatever industry or process it came from.

Compare the methoxychlor in the TCLP extract with 10 mg/L. A total methoxychlor result is a different measure, so it can't be compared with this limit.

D014 is a nonacute characteristic. On a required hazardous waste manifest, put D014 in Item 13. See VSQG exemptions and empty-container rules.

What does D014 cover?

D014 applies when a representative sample gives a TCLP extract with methoxychlor at or above 10 mg/L. The limit is for the extract, not the waste’s total methoxychlor.

Is methoxychlor waste always D014?

CodeWhen it fits
D014The TCLP extract of a representative sample holds methoxychlor at or above 10 mg/L.
D004–D043The methoxychlor result is below 10 mg/L, but another contaminant or characteristic can still apply.
U247Unused methoxychlor is thrown away pure, as technical grade, or as the product’s only active ingredient.

Generators decide the codes from testing or knowledge of the waste, under 40 CFR 262.11. A result below 10 mg/L rules out D014 only. It doesn't make the waste nonhazardous.

Which wastes take D014?

WasteWhen it’s D014
Contaminated soilIts methoxychlor leaches at the TCLP limit or above.
Waste pesticidesIts methoxychlor leaches at the TCLP limit or above.
