D017, 2,4,5-TP (Silvex).
Characteristic hazardous waste
2,4,5-TP (Silvex)
2,4,5-TP (Silvex) at 1 mg/L or more in the TCLP extract.
Is D017 hazardous waste?
Yes. Waste is D017 when the TCLP extract of a representative sample holds 2,4,5-TP (Silvex) at or above 1 mg/L. That makes it toxic hazardous waste, whatever industry or process it came from.
Compare the 2,4,5-TP (Silvex) in the TCLP extract with 1 mg/L. A total 2,4,5-TP (Silvex) result is a different measure, so it can't be compared with this limit.
D017 is a nonacute characteristic. On a required hazardous waste manifest, put D017 in Item 13. See VSQG exemptions and empty-container rules.
What does D017 cover?
D017 applies when a representative sample gives a TCLP extract with 2,4,5-TP (Silvex) at or above 1 mg/L. The limit is for the extract, not the waste’s total 2,4,5-TP (Silvex).

Is 2,4,5-TP (Silvex) waste always D017?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| D017 | The TCLP extract of a representative sample holds 2,4,5-TP (Silvex) at or above 1 mg/L. |
| D004–D043 | The 2,4,5-TP (Silvex) result is below 1 mg/L, but another contaminant or characteristic can still apply. |
Generators decide the codes from testing or knowledge of the waste, under 40 CFR 262.11. A result below 1 mg/L rules out D017 only. It doesn't make the waste nonhazardous.
Which wastes take D017?
| Waste | When it’s D017 |
|---|---|
| Contaminated soil | Its 2,4,5-TP (Silvex) leaches at the TCLP limit or above. |
| Waste pesticides | Its 2,4,5-TP (Silvex) leaches at the TCLP limit or above. |
Which codes sit beside D017?
| Code | What it is |
|---|---|
| D013 | Lindane |
| D014 | Methoxychlor |
| D015 | Toxaphene |
| D016 | 2,4-D |
| D018 | Benzene |
| D019 | Carbon tetrachloride |
| D020 | Chlordane |
| D021 | Chlorobenzene |
