D015, Toxaphene.
Characteristic hazardous waste
Toxaphene
Toxaphene at 0.5 mg/L or more in the TCLP extract.
Is D015 hazardous waste?
Yes. Waste is D015 when the TCLP extract of a representative sample holds toxaphene at or above 0.5 mg/L. That makes it toxic hazardous waste, whatever industry or process it came from.
Compare the toxaphene in the TCLP extract with 0.5 mg/L. A total toxaphene result is a different measure, so it can't be compared with this limit.
D015 is a nonacute characteristic. On a required hazardous waste manifest, put D015 in Item 13. See VSQG exemptions and empty-container rules.
What does D015 cover?
D015 applies when a representative sample gives a TCLP extract with toxaphene at or above 0.5 mg/L. The limit is for the extract, not the waste’s total toxaphene.

Is toxaphene waste always D015?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| D015 | The TCLP extract of a representative sample holds toxaphene at or above 0.5 mg/L. |
| D004–D043 | The toxaphene result is below 0.5 mg/L, but another contaminant or characteristic can still apply. |
| P123 | Unused toxaphene is thrown away pure, as technical grade, or as the product’s only active ingredient. |
Generators decide the codes from testing or knowledge of the waste, under 40 CFR 262.11. A result below 0.5 mg/L rules out D015 only. It doesn't make the waste nonhazardous.
Which wastes take D015?
| Waste | When it’s D015 |
|---|---|
| Contaminated soil | Its toxaphene leaches at the TCLP limit or above. |
| Waste pesticides | Its toxaphene leaches at the TCLP limit or above. |

| D011 | Silver |
| D012 | Endrin |
| D013 | Lindane |
| D014 | Methoxychlor |
| D016 | 2,4-D |
| D017 | 2,4,5-TP (Silvex) |
| D018 | Benzene |
| D019 | Carbon tetrachloride |
