Tasmania
Tannery waste from leather processing
Tasmania publishes K140 in its controlled-waste list; the characteristic test remains relevant.
Is Tasmania K140 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. For national-list categories, Tasmania also needs a listed hazardous characteristic, which is presumed unless shown otherwise. Tasmania adds its own controlled wastes too, so read the category and the local rules together.
Put K140 with the specific waste description in the controlled-waste consignment documentation. Record the producer, quantity, form, contaminants, registered transporter and receiver. An incoming interstate controlled load needs EPA Tasmania's consignment authorisation, and another state's certificate doesn't authorise the receiving facility. Follow the Tasmanian handling and transport rules.
What does Tasmania K140 cover?
Waste from tanneries and leather processing goes here, including leather dust, ash, sludge and flour. Unlike the Victorian and Western Australian entries, Tasmania's doesn't say chromium must be absent.
