Which waste code covers spent organic solvent?
The catalogues separate halogenated organic solvents from other organic solvents, and can list ethers or highly flammable hydrocarbons on their own. Record the solvent or the mixture’s composition so the description can be matched.
Is solvent-contaminated paint just a solvent waste?
Paint, resins, adhesives and PCB-contaminated materials can have more specific entries than the solvent group. Read those descriptions and exclusions together. In Queensland, an asterisked category takes precedence when several listed categories fit.
Which exclusions or special routes apply to solvent waste codes?
South Australia. South Australia’s household chemical depots accept household solvents, including paint thinners and turpentine.
Australian Capital Territory. Small quantities of unwanted household thinners and similar solvents can go to the free household chemical drop-off at Mugga Lane or Mitchell.
The shared classification and movement limits for solvent waste codes are on the Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory pages.
What do you do next with solvent waste codes?
For solvents, work out whether they are halogenated and whether paint, resin or another specific stream fits better. Then choose the state’s movement route.
