Which waste code list applies in Tasmania?
EPA Tasmania publishes the national-standard categories with local additions. These are K130 for sewage sludge and DEADF for finfish-farming mortalities. Use DEADF for the listed finfish waste and don't swap in another state's code.
How do waste classification and tracking differ in Tasmania?
The current Waste Management Regulations are the 2020 instrument, which rescinded the 2010 regulations. Use the Tasmanian description and the approval and transporter requirements that go with it. For incoming interstate waste, use EPA Tasmania's consignment-authorisation process. Another state's certificate isn't approval for the receiving facility. In Tasmania, a national-list waste is controlled only if it has a listed hazardous characteristic, though it is presumed to have one unless shown otherwise. Tasmania also prescribes some extra controlled wastes. The regulations' general handling approval doesn't apply to usual domestic handling, removal from domestic premises after usual domestic use, storage at the place of production while awaiting transport, or storage at a waste transfer station, each subject to the regulation's conditions. A Director's notice or an approved management method can create another route. Transport still has separate registration and documentation rules.
Which Tasmania materials have their own route?
Material-specific routes for Tasmania are on the Asbestos waste, Clinical waste, Contaminated soil, Fill material and excavated spoil, Septic tank waste, Treated timber and Waste tyres pages.
Biosolids. Tasmania has an approved management method for biosolids reuse. Use that method or another authority, because the code alone doesn't allow reuse.
Untreated timber. Timber is outside Tasmania's clean-fill definitions. Don't use the clean-fill approved management method for a load containing timber.
What record follows a Tasmania classification?
For Tasmanian controlled waste, confirm the transporter, the receiving approval and any approved management method. Incoming interstate loads need EPA Tasmania consignment authorisation.
