    Cytotoxic waste

    When to use R130
R100 covers waste from clinical care that has not been treated, in the national list and the ACT, NSW & NT lists.

Which code covers clinical and related waste?

R100 is the clinical and related waste entry in the state catalogues. In some catalogues the wording excludes pharmaceutical or cytotoxic waste that is listed separately. Use the more specific description where the list requires it.

Are medicines and cytotoxic waste clinical waste codes?

Read R120, R130 and R140 alongside R100. Waste from using medicines differs from production waste, and cytotoxic substances have a specific entry. Don’t merge them under a general clinical label when the state separates them.

Which exclusions or special routes apply to clinical waste codes?

New South Wales. The clinical-waste definition excludes waste treated by a method approved in writing by NSW Health. Treatment without that approval is not enough. Pharmaceutical waste has a separate commercial-origin definition, and sharps have their own treatment conditions.

Queensland. Schedule 9 Part 3 Division 1 excludes treated clinical waste and related waste treated to make it non-infectious. Untreated clinical waste gets no such exclusion.

Tasmania. Tasmania has an approved management method for clinical and related waste. Use that method or the right authority. The code by itself doesn’t authorise handling or disposal.

The shared classification and movement limits for clinical waste codes are on the Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory pages.
