Northern Territory
Discarded medicines and pharmaceuticals
NT 2013 table entry R120; confirm that the current system still accepts it before use.
Is NT R120 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. The code is an administrative description, not the current statutory listed-waste test. NT licensing for listed-waste activities generally concerns commercial activity or services done for a fee. The waste, the activity and the licence conditions all matter.
Every controlled-waste movement into or out of the NT needs a consignment authorisation and Waste Transfer Certificate. Enter the accepted administrative code, with a description, in the certificate's waste-code field, and check the NT code currency and movement rules. The November 2024 guide makes online tracking within the NT voluntary, but licensed operators still keep records and report volumes under their licence conditions.
What does NT R120 cover?
Discarded medicines, drugs and pharmaceutical products. It is the medicine itself being thrown away, not waste from making it.
