Asbestos-like ceramic fibres
Northern Territory N230: use for ceramic fibres whose physical and chemical behaviour resembles asbestos.
Is NT N230 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. The code is an administrative description, not the statutory listed-waste test. NT licensing for listed-waste activities generally covers commercial work or services done for a fee. So the waste, the activity and the licence conditions all matter.
Every controlled-waste movement into or out of the NT needs a consignment authorisation and Waste Transfer Certificate. The certificate's waste-code field takes the accepted code with a description. The November 2024 guide makes online tracking within the NT voluntary, but licensed operators still keep records and report volumes under their licence conditions.
For a controlled border movement, enter the accepted code in the certificate's waste-code field. Then check the NT code currency and movement rules.
What does NT N230 cover?
Ceramic fibres whose physical and chemical properties resemble asbestos. They must be ceramic and match asbestos in both respects.
