Which waste code list applies in the Northern Territory?
The NT code-table appendix is an older administrative catalogue. Current Schedule 1 lists waste descriptions, including PFAS, without printing code numbers. A historical administrative entry doesn't prove the code the portal now accepts.
The administrative code table dates from January 2013. Confirm the accepted code with NT EPA or the licensed handler before completing a current movement record.
How do waste classification and tracking differ in the Northern Territory?
Confirm the code with NT EPA where the current listed-waste description has no matching published administrative entry. Read the current movement guide and licence conditions for records within the Territory. Interstate controlled-waste movements follow the destination approval and movement-certificate process. Environment protection approval and licensing apply to collecting, transporting, storing, recycling, treating or disposing of listed waste when the activity is commercial or for a fee, except for the stated sewage-treatment route. That doesn't make household waste safe for a normal bin or remove the general environmental duty. All controlled waste moved into or out of the Territory needs a consignment authorisation and a waste transport certificate.
Which Northern Territory materials have their own route?
Material-specific routes for the Northern Territory are on the Asbestos waste, Battery waste, Contaminated soil, E-waste, Fill material and excavated spoil, Paint waste, Waste tyres and Used oil pages.
Applies to Bricks, Concrete. It doesn't exempt commercial listed-waste handling or allow arbitrary dumping.
Applies to Bricks, Concrete, Fill material and excavated spoil. The approval exception for constructing burial works covers waste rock, rubble and other inert material used to reclaim land.
Applies to Paint waste, Used oil. Commercial or fee-for-service listed-waste handling needs the licensed route.
Applies to Waste solar panels, Waste televisions, Whitegoods. Commercial acceptance can differ.
Consolidated household chemicals. Household acceptance is local. Darwin's Shoal Bay route accepts some household hazardous waste but excludes commercial quantities, so confirm with the facility before delivery.
Waste solar panels. Darwin residents can take accepted household solar panels to Shoal Bay.
Waste televisions. Darwin residents can take accepted household televisions to Shoal Bay.
Whitegoods. Darwin residents can take accepted household whitegoods to Shoal Bay.
What record do I need after classifying waste in the Northern Territory?
For NT listed waste moved commercially or for a fee, confirm the licence and the movement record you need. Waste entering or leaving the Territory also needs consignment authorisation and a waste transport certificate.
