Northern Territory
Waste mineral oil
NT 2013 table entry J100; confirm that the current system still accepts it before use.
Is NT J100 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. The code is an administrative description, not the statutory listed-waste test. NT licensing for listed-waste activities generally covers commercial work or services done for a fee. So the waste, the activity and the licence conditions all matter.
Every controlled-waste movement into or out of the NT needs a consignment authorisation and Waste Transfer Certificate. The certificate's waste-code field takes the accepted code with a description. The November 2024 guide makes online tracking within the NT voluntary, but licensed operators still keep records and report volumes under their licence conditions.
For a controlled border movement, enter the accepted code in the certificate's waste-code field. Then check the NT code currency and movement rules.
What does NT J100 cover?
Waste mineral oil goes here once it is no longer fit for its original purpose. Mixtures and emulsions of oil and water sit under J120.

Is waste mineral oil NT J100 or NT J120?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| J100 | The mineral oil is waste and no longer fit for its original use. |
| J120 | The oil or hydrocarbon is mixed or emulsified with water. |
The older table helps you recognise a description. It doesn't show that the portal accepts the code today, or what an operator's licence now says. Get the movement approval before dispatch.
