Wood-preservative chemical waste
NT 2013 table entry H170; confirm that the current system still accepts it before use.
Is NT H170 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. The code is an administrative description, not the statutory listed-waste test. NT licensing for listed-waste activities generally covers commercial work or services done for a fee. So the waste, the activity and the licence conditions all matter.
Every controlled-waste movement into or out of the NT needs a consignment authorisation and Waste Transfer Certificate. The certificate's waste-code field takes the accepted code with a description. The November 2024 guide makes online tracking within the NT voluntary, but licensed operators still keep records and report volumes under their licence conditions.
For a controlled border movement, enter the accepted code in the certificate's waste-code field. Then check the NT code currency and movement rules.
What does NT H170 cover?
Process waste from making, mixing or using wood preservatives goes here. It follows that activity and product, not every item made of treated timber.

Is wood-preservative chemical waste always NT H170?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| H170 | The waste came from making, formulating or using a wood-preserving chemical. |
The older table helps you recognise a description. It doesn't show that the portal accepts the code today, or what an operator's licence now says. Get the movement approval before dispatch.
