R140, Pharmaceutical-production waste.
New South Wales
Pharmaceutical-production waste
NSW R140: within NSW or interstate; the listed hazardous-characteristic test still applies.
Is NSW R140 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. R140 marks a waste that may need tracking. Tracking under Part 4 needs a matching Schedule 1 waste description and a Part 3 hazardous characteristic. That test is separate from the NSW disposal classification, and the code gives no disposal class. Part 4 covers local and interstate movements.
Where tracking applies, enter R140 in the waste-code field of the IWTS Movement, with the description, quantity, parties and the receiver's Movement Authorisation. The approved system issues the Movement reference. NSW tracking exemptions still apply.
What does NSW R140 cover?
Discarded material from making or preparing pharmaceutical products. It covers the making or preparing, not later use or disposal as medicines.
