Which waste code list applies in Queensland?
Queensland keeps regulated-waste categories separate from the trackable-waste code list. Current tracking codes are in Schedule 11 of the Environmental Protection Regulation 2019.
How do waste classification and tracking differ in Queensland?
Find the regulated-waste category and whether the waste is trackable. Where several trackable descriptions fit, an asterisked code wins. The asterisk is a choice rule, not an EWC hazardous-waste marker. Check the section 71 exclusions before deciding the tracking duty. Regulated waste is commercial or industrial waste under s 42, not ordinary household waste. Schedule 9 Part 3 Division 1 excludes specified waste types. Section 42(4) also lets current tests show that every attribute meets Table 1 and every substance is below its Table 2 threshold. Schedule 11 tracking applies only while waste is regulated. Section 71 excludes non-commercial transport of less than 250 kg, pipelines, approved exemptions, qualifying same-substance refill returns, specified power-station fly-ash reuse, laboratory analysis, emergency protection, qualifying unpaid farm chemical stewardship collections, specified product recalls, stock-food use and farm soil-conditioner or fertiliser use. Material becomes an end-of-waste resource only under the EOW code or approval and its producer registration, quality and permitted-use conditions. Otherwise it stays waste. Transport licensing is separate. Schedule 2 s 57 excludes up to 175 kg of asbestos and self-haul of up to 250 kg of regulated waste.
Commercial tracking can apply at any quantity. A transport-licensing exclusion doesn't remove tracking by itself.
Which Queensland materials have their own route?
Material-specific routes for Queensland are on the Asbestos waste, Battery waste, Clinical waste and Treated timber pages.
Applies to Acid sulfate soil, Contaminated soil, Fill material and excavated spoil, PFAS waste. Contaminated soil from EMR/CLR-listed land is excluded from regulated waste by Schedule 9 Part 3 Division 1 item 19. Removing it for treatment or disposal needs a soil disposal permit, written acceptance from the receiving landowner and a facility able to receive it. Queensland has no N120 entry, so don't borrow one from another state. Soil from other land needs assessment against s 42 and any constituent of concern. Clean spoil isn't regulated just because it was excavated.
Applies to Contaminated drums and containers, Paint waste. Architectural and decorative paint and its containers are excluded when collected, stored and transported under product stewardship (Schedule 9 Part 3 Division 1 items 13–14). The excluded products don't include bagged render, texture coating, isocyanate-containing paint, paint stripper, industrial paint or anti-fouling paint. Spray packs don't qualify for the container exclusion.
Applies to Waste computers, E-waste, Electrical toys, End-of-life vehicles, Electrical kitchen appliances, Waste mobile phones, Waste solar panels, Waste televisions, Whitegoods. Schedule 9 Part 3 Division 1 excludes specified intact or partly disassembled TVs, computers and related equipment and components, automotive equipment, solar panels, mobile phones and accessories, and whitegoods. It isn't a blanket exemption for shredded residues or every electrical product. Assess other equipment and removed hazardous components separately.
Applies to Lead compound waste, Lead paint waste. For solid waste, lead must be below 300 mg/kg (liquid, below 34 μg/L) and every other Schedule 9 Part 3 Division 2 test must pass before s 42(4) removes regulated status. A lead result alone doesn't show a test-out.
What record follows a Queensland classification?
For Queensland trackable regulated waste, prepare the waste transport certificate details and confirm both the transporter and the receiver before the movement starts.
