Selenium and selenium compounds
WA category D240; load type and road-transport rules decide whether a tracking form follows.
Is WA D240 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. D240 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 covers industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste. Domestic waste is outside it. Waste that a Class I, II or III landfill can lawfully accept is excluded, apart from specified exceptions such as asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.
For a tracked load, enter D240 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. DWER issues the number. The authorised carrier or driver records collection and transport, and the receiving facility closes the record. Record the holder, amount, containment and destination. The WA load thresholds and exclusions still apply.
What does WA D240 cover?
Selenium and selenium compounds fall here. That includes the element itself, not just one named compound or process.

Is selenium waste WA D240?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| D240 | The waste holds elemental selenium or a selenium compound. |
Landfill acceptance turns on the landfill criteria, not on how the waste looks. A category number and a dangerous goods class answer different questions.
Which wastes take WA D240?
| Waste | When it’s D240 |
|---|---|
| Selenium waste | Analysis or process knowledge shows selenium in the discarded waste. |
