N220, Asbestos waste.
Western Australia
Asbestos waste
N220 does not use the standard form; asbestos transport controls still apply.
Is WA N220 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. N220 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 covers industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste, but not domestic waste. Waste that a Class I, II or III landfill can lawfully accept is excluded, with exceptions such as asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.
Asbestos falls under the regulation 3(5) disposal controls and needs no controlled-waste tracking form (CWTS). Packaging, labelling, transport and a lawful asbestos receiving route still matter. Having no CWTS paperwork doesn't approve disposal.
Where WA road tracking applies, enter N220 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. The WA load thresholds and exclusions set which loads that covers.
What does WA N220 cover?
Asbestos waste and discarded asbestos-containing material. Each state sets its own boundary, and soil containing asbestos fibres is generally treated as asbestos-containing material. Victoria gives asbestos-bearing soil the N120 description.
