Western Australia
Pharmaceutical-production waste
WA category R140; load type and road-transport rules decide whether a tracking form follows.
Is WA R140 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. R140 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 covers industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste, but not domestic waste. Waste that a Class I, II or III landfill can lawfully accept is excluded, with exceptions such as asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.
For a tracked load, enter R140 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. DWER issues the number. The authorised carrier or driver records collection and transport, and the receiving facility closes the record. Record the holder, amount, containment and destination. The WA load thresholds and exclusions set which loads are tracked.
What does WA R140 cover?
Discarded material from making or preparing pharmaceutical products. It covers manufacture, not later use or disposal as medicines.
