    Restricted hexavalent-chromium liquid

Liquid chromium(VI) is 500 mg/L or more.

Restricted hazardous waste for liquids with hexavalent chromium at 500 mg/L or more, measured in mg/L.

Is California code 723 hazardous waste?

Not from the code alone. Code 723 is a restricted waste code, so it wins over any non-restricted code that also fits. Choose it after the hazardous waste determination. It doesn't prove the waste is hazardous or decide its federal RCRA status.

If a shipment needs the Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest, enter 723 in Item 13 for its waste line. Use one California code, plus the federal RCRA codes when the waste is federally hazardous.

RCRA waste meets a federal listing or characteristic and has no federal exclusion. Non-RCRA waste is hazardous under California rules only. California presumes hazardous waste is RCRA unless the generator shows it isn't, so keep that record.

What does California code 723 cover?

This restricted entry is hazardous liquid whose representative chromium(VI), or hexavalent chromium, result is 500 mg/L or more. A solid or sludge result in mg/kg can't be compared directly with this liquid concentration.

Is hexavalent chromium liquid California code 723 or 132?

CodeWhen it fits
723Representative chromium(VI) is at least 500 mg/L in the liquid.
132The aqueous liquid holds chromium but doesn't meet the restricted threshold.

DTSC's 2017 guidance says greater than 500 mg/L, unlike the current inclusive threshold. The alphabetical Appendix XII table also has an extra closing parenthesis. If more than one restricted code fits, confirm the single California code for the waste line. The rules give no general tie-breaker.
