725, Restricted mercury liquid.

  • Restricted wasteCalifornia restricted wastes

    Restricted mercury liquid

Liquid mercury is 20 mg/L or more, so this restricted entry takes priority.

Restricted hazardous waste for liquids with mercury at 20 mg/L or more. A result of exactly 20 mg/L is included.

Is California code 725 hazardous waste?

Not from the code alone. Code 725 is a restricted waste code, so it wins over any non-restricted code that also fits. Choose it after the hazardous waste determination. It doesn't prove the waste is hazardous or decide its federal RCRA status.

If a shipment needs the Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest, enter 725 in Item 13 for its waste line. Use one California code, plus the federal RCRA codes when the waste is federally hazardous.

RCRA waste meets a federal listing or characteristic and has no federal exclusion. Non-RCRA waste is hazardous under California rules only. California presumes hazardous waste is RCRA unless the generator shows it isn't, so keep that record.

What does California code 725 cover?

This restricted entry is hazardous liquid with a representative mercury result of 20 mg/L or more. A lower result falls outside this entry but doesn't make the waste nonhazardous.

Is mercury liquid California code 725 or 132?

CodeWhen it fits
725Representative mercury is at least 20 mg/L in the liquid.
132The aqueous liquid holds mercury but stays below the restricted threshold.

The current Appendix XII threshold includes exactly 20 mg/L. DTSC's 2017 guidance says greater than 20 mg/L. If more than one restricted code fits, confirm the single California code for the waste line. The rules give no general tie-breaker.
