Metal and plastic surface-treatment waste
Australian Capital Territory A100: surface treatment is the source; compare heat-treatment cyanide waste under A110.
Is ACT A100 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. For ACT interstate controls, the waste must match a NEPM Schedule A List 1 category and have a List 2 hazardous characteristic. The ACT list supplies the printed code, and the NEPM itself doesn't print these A100-style numbers.
For a controlled border movement, put A100 with the waste description on the waste transport certificate. The producer, transporter and receiver complete their parts. Get ACT EPA's consignment authorisation before bringing controlled waste into the ACT, and record the quantity, form, destination and any dangerous goods details. The ACT movement exclusions still apply.
What does ACT A100 cover?
Waste from operations that treat metal or plastic surfaces. The entry goes by the process that made the waste, not by a named metal, plastic or treatment chemical.
- Official wording
- Responsibilities of controlled waste producers in the ACT
Is metal and plastic surface-treatment waste always ACT A100?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| A100 | The waste came straight from treating the surface of metal or plastic. |
| A110 | The waste comes from cyanide heat treatment or tempering, not from treating a metal or plastic surface. |
Use the ACT list's entry for an ACT movement record. A national reporting category with the same number serves a different purpose and doesn't create the ACT movement duty.
