Western Australia
PFAS-contaminated material
Western Australia M270: PFAS means per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances; contaminated products, containers or soil may fit.
Is WA M270 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. M270 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 covers industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste, but not domestic waste. Waste that a Class I, II or III landfill can lawfully accept is excluded, with exceptions such as asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.
For a tracked load, enter M270 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. DWER issues the number. The authorised carrier or driver records collection and transport, and the receiving facility closes the record. Record the holder, amount, containment and destination. The WA load thresholds and exclusions set which loads are tracked.
What does WA M270 cover?
PFAS-contaminated material, including discarded products that contain PFAS and contaminated containers. Products, containers and soil are examples. The test is contamination by a PFAS substance.

| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| M270 | The discarded material or product is contaminated with a PFAS substance. |
Landfill acceptance comes from the applicable criteria, not the look of the waste. A category number and a dangerous goods class answer different questions.
