Western Australia
Surfactants and detergents
Western Australia M250: surfactants reduce surface tension; check whether the entry requires mainly organic constituents.
Is WA M250 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. M250 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 covers industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste, but not domestic waste. Waste that a Class I, II or III landfill can lawfully accept is excluded, with exceptions such as asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.
For a tracked load, enter M250 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. DWER issues the number. The authorised carrier or driver records collection and transport, and the receiving facility closes the record. Record the holder, amount, containment and destination. The WA load thresholds and exclusions set which loads are tracked.
What does WA M250 cover?
Surfactants that are mainly organic, including detergent waste that qualifies. They may also hold metals or inorganic constituents.

| M250 | The waste is a surfactant that matches Western Australia’s list wording. |
Landfill acceptance comes from the applicable criteria, not the look of the waste. A category number and a dangerous goods class answer different questions.
