Polychlorinated dioxins
Western Australia M180: A congener is one chemical variant in the dioxin group; any variant is included.
Is WA M180 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. M180 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 covers industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste, but not domestic waste. Waste lawfully accepted at a Class I, II or III landfill is excluded, except for specified items including asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.
For a tracked load, enter M180 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. DWER issues the number. The authorised carrier or driver records collection and transport, and the receiving facility closes the record. Record the holder, amount, containment and destination. Road tracking in WA follows the WA load thresholds and exclusions.
What does WA M180 cover?
Any congener of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin falls here. The wording takes every chemical variant in the dioxin group, not a named few.

| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| M180 | The waste contains any polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin congener. |
Landfill acceptance depends on the landfill criteria, not on how the waste looks. A category number and a dangerous goods class answer different questions.
