    Organic cyanides and nitriles

Western Australia M210: this entry joins organic cyanides with nitriles; inorganic cyanides belong under A130.

Western Australian waste code for organic cyanides, joined here with nitriles. Inorganic cyanides such as cyanide salts go to A130.

Is WA M210 hazardous waste?

Not from the code alone. M210 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 covers industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste, but not domestic waste. Waste that a Class I, II or III landfill can lawfully accept is excluded, with exceptions such as asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.

For a tracked load, enter M210 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. DWER issues the number. The authorised carrier or driver records collection and transport, and the receiving facility closes the record. Record the holder, amount, containment and destination. The WA load thresholds and exclusions set which loads are tracked.

What does WA M210 cover?

Organic cyanides and nitriles. Nitriles are included with organic cyanides. Inorganic cyanides are outside it and use A130.

Is nitrile waste WA M210 or A130?

CodeWhen it fits
M210The waste contains an organic cyanide or nitrile.
A130The cyanide is inorganic, not organic.

Landfill acceptance comes from the applicable criteria, not the look of the waste. A category number and a dangerous goods class answer different questions.
