Strong-smelling organic chemicals
Western Australia M260: mercaptans and acrylates are examples of the strong-smelling organic chemicals covered.
Is WA M260 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. M260 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 covers industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste, but not domestic waste. Waste that a Class I, II or III landfill can lawfully accept is excluded, with exceptions such as asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.
For a tracked load, enter M260 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. DWER issues the number. The authorised carrier or driver records collection and transport, and the receiving facility closes the record. Record the holder, amount, containment and destination. The WA load thresholds and exclusions set which loads are tracked.
What does WA M260 cover?
Strong-smelling organic chemicals, including acrylates and mercaptans. These are examples, so the code isn't limited to those 2 groups.

| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| M260 | The organic chemical has a strong smell, as mercaptans and acrylates do. |
Landfill acceptance comes from the applicable criteria, not the look of the waste. A category number and a dangerous goods class answer different questions.
