Strongly acidic metal-bearing liquid
Liquid pH is 2 or below and a metal listed under code 121 is present.
Is California code 792 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Code 792 is a restricted waste code, so it wins over any non-restricted code that also fits. Choose it after the hazardous waste determination. It doesn't prove the waste is hazardous or decide its federal RCRA status.
If a shipment needs the Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest, enter 792 in Item 13 for its waste line. Use one California code, plus the federal RCRA codes when the waste is federally hazardous.
RCRA waste meets a federal listing or characteristic and has no federal exclusion. Non-RCRA waste is hazardous under California rules only. California presumes hazardous waste is RCRA unless the generator shows it isn't, so keep that record.
What does California code 792 cover?
This restricted entry is hazardous liquid measured at pH 2 or below that holds any metal listed under code 121. Keep both the pH measurement and a representative metal analysis. Without either one, the code isn't supported.

Is acidic metal liquid California code 792 or 791?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| 792 | Measured pH is 2 or below and a code 121 metal is present. |
| 791 | Measured pH is 2 or below and no code 121 metal is present. |
The current Appendix XII threshold includes pH 2. DTSC's 2017 guidance says pH below 2, which leaves out the boundary. If more than one restricted code fits, confirm the single California code for the waste line. The rules give no general tie-breaker.
Which wastes take California code 792?
| Waste | When it’s 792 |
|---|---|
| Antimony-bearing waste | The liquid has pH 2 or below and contains antimony |
| Arsenic-bearing waste | The liquid has pH 2 or below and contains arsenic |
| Barium-bearing waste | The liquid has pH 2 or below and contains barium |
| Beryllium-bearing waste | The liquid has pH 2 or below and contains beryllium |
| Cadmium-bearing waste | The liquid has pH 2 or below and contains cadmium |
| Chromium-bearing waste | The liquid has pH 2 or below and contains chromium |
| Cobalt-bearing waste | The liquid has pH 2 or below and contains cobalt |
| Copper-bearing waste | The liquid has pH 2 or below and contains copper |
Which codes sit beside California code 792?
| Code | What it is |
|---|---|
| 725 | Restricted mercury liquid |
| 726 | Restricted nickel liquid |
| 727 | Restricted selenium liquid |
| 728 | Restricted thallium liquid |
| 731 | Restricted PCB liquid |
| 741 | Restricted halogenated-organic liquid |
| 751 | Restricted halogenated-organic solids or sludge |
| 801 | Waste that may contain dioxins |
