D290, Barium compounds.

  • New South Wales

    Barium compounds

New South Wales D290: barium sulphate is outside this barium-compound entry where the catalogue says so.

Barium compounds such as barium chloride & carbonate. Barium sulphate is left out where the catalogue says so.

Is NSW D290 hazardous waste?

Not from the code alone. D290 marks waste that may need tracking. Part 4 requires a matching Schedule 1 waste description and a Part 3 hazardous characteristic. That is a tracking test, not the NSW disposal classification, and the code gives no disposal class. Part 4 covers local and interstate movements.

Where Part 4 tracking applies, enter D290 in the waste-code field of the IWTS Movement, with the description, quantity, parties and the receiver's applicable Movement Authorisation. The approved system issues the Movement reference. The NSW tracking exemptions still apply.

What does NSW D290 cover?

Barium compounds, but not barium sulphate. The compound matters, because a barium compound that is the sulphate is excluded.
