Metal and plastic surface-treatment waste
Western Australia A100: surface treatment is the source; compare heat-treatment cyanide waste under A110.
Is WA A100 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. A100 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 takes in industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste and leaves out domestic waste. It also excludes waste that a Class I, II or III landfill can lawfully accept, with set exceptions that include asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.
Where WA road tracking applies, enter A100 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. DWER issues the number. The authorised carrier or driver records collection and transport, and the receiving facility closes the record. Record the holder, amount, containment and destination. The WA load thresholds and exclusions still apply.
What does WA A100 cover?
Waste from operations that treat metal or plastic surfaces. The category follows the process that made the waste and names no particular metal, plastic or treatment chemical.

Is surface-treatment waste WA A100 or A110?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| A100 | The waste arose directly from surface treatment of metal or plastic. |
| A110 | The waste comes from cyanide heat treatment or tempering rather than metal or plastic surface treatment. |
Landfill acceptance follows the acceptance criteria, not how the waste looks. A category number and a dangerous goods classification answer different questions.
