Beryllium and beryllium compounds
WA category D160; load type and road-transport rules decide whether a tracking form follows.
Is WA D160 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. D160 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 covers industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste. Domestic waste is outside it. Waste that a Class I, II or III landfill can lawfully accept is excluded, apart from specified exceptions such as asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.
For a tracked load, enter D160 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. DWER issues the number. The authorised carrier or driver records collection and transport, and the receiving facility closes the record. Record the holder, amount, containment and destination. The WA load thresholds and exclusions still apply.
What does WA D160 cover?
Elemental beryllium and beryllium compounds fall here. That includes the element itself, not just one named compound or process.

Is beryllium waste WA D160?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| D160 | The waste holds beryllium metal or a beryllium compound. |
Landfill acceptance turns on the landfill criteria, not on how the waste looks. A category number and a dangerous goods class answer different questions.
Which wastes take WA D160?
| Waste | When it’s D160 |
|---|---|
| Beryllium waste | Analysis or process knowledge shows beryllium in the discarded waste. |
