Wood-preservative chemical waste
WA category H170; load type and road-transport rules decide whether a tracking form follows.
Is WA H170 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. H170 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 covers industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste, but not domestic waste. Waste lawfully accepted at a Class I, II or III landfill is excluded, except for specified items including asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.
For a tracked load, enter H170 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. DWER issues the number. The authorised carrier or driver records collection and transport, and the receiving facility closes the record. Record the holder, amount, containment and destination. Road tracking in WA follows the WA load thresholds and exclusions.
What does WA H170 cover?
Process waste from producing, formulating or using wood-preserving chemicals falls here. It follows that activity, not every item made of treated timber.

|---|---|
| H170 | The waste arose while making, formulating or using a wood-preserving chemical. |
Landfill acceptance depends on the landfill criteria, not on how the waste looks. A category number and a dangerous goods class answer different questions.
