Strong-smelling organic chemicals
Australian Capital Territory M260: mercaptans and acrylates are examples of the strong-smelling organic chemicals covered.
Is ACT M260 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. For ACT interstate controls, a waste needs a NEPM Schedule A List 1 category and a List 2 hazardous characteristic. The ACT administrative list prints the code. The NEPM itself doesn't print these A100-style numbers.
For a controlled border movement, put M260 with the waste description on the waste transport certificate. The producer, transporter and receiver each complete their parts. Get ACT EPA's consignment authorisation before bringing controlled waste into the ACT, and record the quantity, form, destination and applicable dangerous goods details.
Check the ACT movement exclusions too.
What does ACT M260 cover?
Strong-smelling organic chemicals, including mercaptans and acrylates. These are examples, so the code is not limited to those 2 groups.

- Responsibilities of controlled waste producers in the ACT
Is strong-smelling organic chemicals always ACT M260?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| M260 | The organic chemical has a highly offensive odour, such as mercaptans and acrylates. |
Use the ACT administrative entry for an ACT movement record. A national reporting category with the same number has a different purpose and doesn't set the ACT movement duty.
