M210, Organic cyanides.

  • Australian Capital Territory

    Organic cyanides

ACT guide entry M210; it supports interstate control and does not settle local disposal approval.

Controlled waste for organic cyanides, such as nitriles. Salts like sodium cyanide are inorganic and classed separately.

Is ACT M210 hazardous waste?

Not from the code alone. For ACT interstate controls, a waste needs a NEPM Schedule A List 1 category and a List 2 hazardous characteristic. The ACT administrative list prints the code. The NEPM itself doesn't print these A100-style numbers.

For a controlled border movement, put M210 with the waste description on the waste transport certificate. The producer, transporter and receiver each complete their parts. Get ACT EPA's consignment authorisation before bringing controlled waste into the ACT, and record the quantity, form, destination and applicable dangerous goods details.

Check the ACT movement exclusions too.

What does ACT M210 cover?

Cyanide compounds whose cyanide group is bonded within an organic compound. The organic bond is the boundary. Inorganic cyanides use the ACT’s A130 code instead.

Is organic cyanides always ACT M210?

CodeWhen it fits
M210The cyanide is organic rather than inorganic.
A130The cyanide is inorganic rather than organic.

Use the ACT administrative entry for an ACT movement record. A national reporting category with the same number has a different purpose and doesn't set the ACT movement duty.
