Contaminated soil
Australian Capital Territory N120: identify the controlled waste or other contaminant that makes the soil fit this entry.
Is ACT N120 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. For ACT interstate controls, a waste needs a NEPM Schedule A List 1 category and a List 2 hazardous characteristic. The ACT administrative list prints the code. The NEPM itself doesn't print these A100-style numbers.
For a controlled border movement, put N120 with the waste description on the waste transport certificate. The producer, transporter and receiver each complete their parts. Get ACT EPA's consignment authorisation before bringing controlled waste into the ACT, and record the quantity, form, destination and applicable dangerous goods details.
Check the ACT movement exclusions too.
What does ACT N120 cover?
Soil containing contamination from controlled waste. The contaminant must be controlled waste or another substance on the ACT’s list.
- Official wording
- Responsibilities of controlled waste producers in the ACT
Is contaminated soil always ACT N120?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| N120 | The soil contains a controlled waste or listed contaminant. |
Use the ACT administrative entry for an ACT movement record. A national reporting category with the same number has a different purpose and doesn't set the ACT movement duty.
