Tarry refining and treatment residue
New South Wales J160: the tarry residue must arise from refining, distillation or heat-driven decomposition.
Is NSW J160 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. J160 marks waste that may need tracking. Part 4 requires a matching Schedule 1 waste description and a Part 3 hazardous characteristic. That is a tracking test, not the NSW disposal classification, and the code gives no disposal class. Part 4 covers local and interstate movements.
Where Part 4 tracking applies, enter J160 in the waste-code field of the IWTS Movement, with the description, quantity, parties and the receiver's applicable Movement Authorisation. The approved system issues the Movement reference. The NSW tracking exemptions still apply.
What does NSW J160 cover?
Tarry residue from refining, distillation or pyrolytic treatment. Both the tar-like residue and the process it came from must match. Other tar waste doesn't fit by name alone.
