J120, Oil-and-water mixtures.
New South Wales
Oil-and-water mixtures
New South Wales J120: use for an emulsion or mixture of water with oil or another hydrocarbon.
Is NSW J120 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. J120 marks waste that may need tracking. Part 4 requires a matching Schedule 1 waste description and a Part 3 hazardous characteristic. That is a tracking test, not the NSW disposal classification, and the code gives no disposal class. Part 4 covers local and interstate movements.
Where Part 4 tracking applies, enter J120 in the waste-code field of the IWTS Movement, with the description, quantity, parties and the receiver's applicable Movement Authorisation. The approved system issues the Movement reference. The NSW tracking exemptions still apply.
What does NSW J120 cover?
Waste oil mixed or emulsified with water, and mixtures of water with other hydrocarbons. Water in the mix sets it apart from a waste oil entry that doesn't mention water.
