Used oil filters
WA category J170; load type and road-transport rules decide whether a tracking form follows.
Is WA J170 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. J170 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 covers industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste, but not domestic waste. Waste lawfully accepted at a Class I, II or III landfill is excluded, except for specified items including asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.
For a tracked load, enter J170 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. DWER issues the number. The authorised carrier or driver records collection and transport, and the receiving facility closes the record. Record the holder, amount, containment and destination. Road tracking in WA follows the WA load thresholds and exclusions.
What does WA J170 cover?
Used oil filters fall here as a discarded article. This entry is narrower than waste oil or oil sludge because the waste is the filter itself after use.
