N220, Asbestos waste.
Australian Capital Territory
Asbestos waste
ACT guide entry N220; it supports interstate control and does not settle local disposal approval.
Is ACT N220 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. For ACT interstate controls, a waste needs a NEPM Schedule A List 1 category and a List 2 hazardous characteristic. The ACT administrative list prints the code. The NEPM itself doesn't print these A100-style numbers.
For a controlled border movement, put N220 with the waste description on the waste transport certificate. The producer, transporter and receiver each complete their parts. Get ACT EPA's consignment authorisation before bringing controlled waste into the ACT, and record the quantity, form, destination and applicable dangerous goods details.
Check the ACT movement exclusions too.
What does ACT N220 cover?
Asbestos waste and discarded asbestos-containing material. The national reporting source says each state defines the boundary and generally treats material containing asbestos fibres, including soil, as asbestos-containing material. Victoria separately gives asbestos-bearing soil the N120 description.

Is asbestos waste always ACT N220?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| N220 | The material is classified as asbestos waste under the applicable state rules. |
Use the ACT administrative entry for an ACT movement record. A national reporting category with the same number has a different purpose and doesn't set the ACT movement duty.
