Asbestos-like ceramic fibres
Australian Capital Territory N230: use for ceramic fibres whose physical and chemical behaviour resembles asbestos.
Is ACT N230 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. For ACT interstate controls, a waste needs a NEPM Schedule A List 1 category and a List 2 hazardous characteristic. The ACT administrative list prints the code. The NEPM itself doesn't print these A100-style numbers.
For a controlled border movement, put N230 with the waste description on the waste transport certificate. The producer, transporter and receiver each complete their parts. Get ACT EPA's consignment authorisation before bringing controlled waste into the ACT, and record the quantity, form, destination and applicable dangerous goods details.
Check the ACT movement exclusions too.
What does ACT N230 cover?
Ceramic fibres with physical and chemical characteristics resembling asbestos. The fibres are ceramic, and the likeness to asbestos rests on both their physical and chemical characteristics.

Is asbestos-like ceramic fibres always ACT N230?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| N230 | The ceramic fibres have physical and chemical characteristics similar to asbestos. |
Use the ACT administrative entry for an ACT movement record. A national reporting category with the same number has a different purpose and doesn't set the ACT movement duty.
