Western Australia
Septage (septic-tank pump-out waste)
Western Australia K210: septage is material pumped from a septic tank or similar on-site sewage system.
Is WA K210 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. K210 is a WA controlled-waste category. Regulation 3 covers industrial, commercial, medical, laboratory and sewage-treatment waste, but not domestic waste. Waste lawfully accepted at a Class I, II or III landfill is excluded, except for specified items including asbestos, tyres and clinical waste.
For a tracked load, enter K210 in the controlled-waste category field on the DWER tracking form. DWER issues the number. The authorised carrier or driver records collection and transport, and the receiving facility closes the record. Record the holder, amount, containment and destination. Road tracking in WA follows the WA load thresholds and exclusions.
What does WA K210 cover?
Septage falls here in WA. It is material pumped from septic or similar on-site wastewater systems, not sewage from the reticulated network.

Is septic-tank waste WA K210 or K130?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| K210 | The waste is septage pumped from a septic tank or similar on-site wastewater system. |
| K130 | The waste comes from the reticulated sewerage system, not an on-site septic system. |
Landfill acceptance depends on the landfill criteria, not on how the waste looks. A category number and a dangerous goods class answer different questions.
