How are Manitoba waste codes identified?

Manitoba uses UN numbers or MHW, EHS and L codes. The 3-digit classes are a separate field.

How is Manitoba hazardous waste collected and shipped?

Manitoba sells 6-copy hazardous waste movement documents. The generator, carrier and receiver each complete their own part. Manitoba generators and receivers keep their copies for at least 2 years, instead of sending Copies 1 and 3 to the department.

The generator completes Part A of the numbered 6-copy movement document, the carrier Part B and the receiver Part C. Enter a UN, MHW, EHS or L identifier in the UN Number or Provincial Waste Code field and record the 3-digit provincial waste class separately. Registration quantities, movement-document exemptions, federal controls and TDG classification are tested separately.

When is Manitoba waste excluded or below the paperwork threshold?

PlaceExclusions, thresholds and applicable routes
ManitobaSchedule D excludes only its precisely described activated, animal and vegetable carbon, copra, oily cotton waste, wet cotton, unstabilized fish meal and scrap, hay, straw and bhusa, unsaturated-oil-treated paper, seed cakes, and soils contaminated with phosphorus or manure. It is not a blanket exclusion for all oily absorbents or soils. Also excluded are low-concentration shredder residue designated as special waste under M.R. 113/2003 and waste wood treated with a wood preservative or protection product registered under the federal Pest Control Products Act. Petroleum-hydrocarbon-contaminated soil is excluded when it meets the Schedule C threshold for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene or xylene, holds no other section 2(1)(b) substance, and goes to a licensed soil treatment facility or another facility the director approves. The same goes for such soil above 100 ppm PAH toxicity equivalent. Used oil filters are excluded when drained for 24 hours and crushed to at least 75% volume compaction. s. 2(2), Schedule A footnote.php?reg=195%2F2015) Registration is triggered by monthly Schedule F thresholds. These are 20 L/kg for Schedule A and 1 L/kg for B/C. They are 5 L/kg for TDG 2.3, Class 3 PG I, Class 4 with under 30% water, Class 5, Class 6.1 PG II/III and Class 8 PG I, and 10 L/kg for Class 3 PG II. Any quantity of Class 6.1 PG I or Class 6.2 Category A needs registration. The threshold is 1 L/kg for Class 9 and 50 L/kg for the remaining classes, divisions, packing groups and categories. Registration is also required before 5 kg or more solid waste, 5 L or more liquid waste, or waste containing more than 500 g of PCB mixture leaves its generation site. Section 4(1)(c) separately adds the Schedule G leaving-site registration trigger, and the movement-document exemption doesn't remove registration. One-off production is not a general exemption. ss. 4, 9, Schedule F.php?reg=195%2F2015) A movement document is not needed for transport solely within property owned or occupied by the generator, carrier or licensed hazardous waste disposal facility. It is also not needed for no more than 5 kg of solid hazardous waste or 5 L of liquid hazardous waste, for waste containing less than 500 g of PCB mixtures, or for waste taken from an environmental accident scene on the instructions of an environment officer or inspector. The Schedule G quantities are also exempt. These are 20 kg of used oil filters in the English text, 20 L of used oil and 205 kg of lead-acid batteries. The current official bilingual PDF says 20 kg for used oil filters in English and 50 kg in French, so don't treat one figure as settled without Manitoba confirmation. s. 18(5), Schedule G.php?reg=195%2F2015)
