Does every Australian C100 code have the same pH threshold?
No. Victoria’s current entry sets pH 10 or more for alkaline solutions, with caustic soda, alkaline cleaning products and discarded lime as examples. A shared code number doesn’t mean a shared threshold across the state catalogues.
How do you code an alkaline cleaning bath with other contaminants?
Use the bath’s process and composition to weigh the alkaline and constituent entries together. Identify dissolved metals and other controlled residues. A pH reading alone can’t show that a mixture is outside a controlled-waste list.
Which exclusions or special routes apply to alkaline waste codes?
South Australia. Householders and farmers can take alkalis to South Australia’s free household chemical depots.
Australian Capital Territory. Small quantities of unwanted household alkalis can go to the free household chemical drop-off at Mugga Lane or Mitchell.
The shared classification and movement limits for alkaline waste codes are on the Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory pages.
What do you do next with alkaline waste codes?
For alkaline waste, record the pH, process and other constituents. Then pick the state entry and an authorised neutralisation, treatment or collection route.
